ADDRESS FILE
Written by: William & Kathleen Petrone
Address File for the 1541 Disk Drive
PowerPlay Magazine, September 1985
Page 64
When you purchase a new 1541
disk drive, you also receive a demo
disk that contains an example of how
to use random files. ADDRESS FILE
adds a collection of modifications to
the original program to help increase
the usability of the program.
This modified version allows you to
enter a name of interest and have the
computer search for that particular
name. It is not necessary to input a
complete name; a string of any length
can be used. For example if 'SM' is
entered as the name to search for,
all names that begin with 'SM' will
be shown. That includes names like
'SMITH', 'SMITTY', and 'SMOTTA'. The
file number(s) that are shown can
then be used to find the name and
address information desired.
To view the directory, the program
enters a null string. As the
directory is scrolling by, you can
slow it by pressing the CTRL key.
When entering data into the master
file, be sure to enter last name/first
name, without any spaces or commas
between names.
These few simple alterations make
the original program much easier to
use.
Please Note:
You should use this program on a
disk by itself. The program needs
all the free space it can get on the
disk.
