  11.   When you purchase a new 1541
  12.  
  13. disk drive, you also receive a demo
  14.  
  15. disk that contains an example of how
  16.  
  17. to use random files. ADDRESS FILE
  18.  
  19. adds a collection of modifications to
  20.  
  21. the original program to help increase
  22.  
  23. the usability of the program.
  24.  
  25.   This modified version allows you to
  26.  
  27. enter a name of interest and have the
  28.  
  29. computer search for that particular
  30.  
  31. name. It is not necessary to input a
  32.  
  33. complete name; a string of any length
  34.  
  35. can be used. For example if 'SM' is
  36.  
  37. entered as the name to search for,
  38.  
  39. all names that begin with 'SM' will
  40.  
  41. be shown.  That includes names like
  42.  
  43. 'SMITH', 'SMITTY', and 'SMOTTA'. The
  44.  
  45. file number(s) that are shown can
  46.  
  47. then be used to find the name and
  48.  
  49. address information desired.
  50.  
  51.   To view the directory, the program
  52.  
  53. enters a null string.  As the
  54.  
  55. directory is scrolling by, you can
  56.  
  57. slow it by pressing the CTRL key.
  58.  
  59.   When entering data into the master
  60.  
  61. file, be sure to enter last name/first
  62.  
  63. name, without any spaces or commas
  64.  
  65. between names.
  66.  
  67.   These few simple alterations make
  68.  
  69. the original program much easier to
  70.  
  71. use.
